Painting for pleasure
There's nothing quite as rewarding as painting and drawing - I have spent many hours totally absorbed in painting a landscape or still life. The hours just seem to shoot by and this absorbing activity gives you a wonderful sense of well being and achievement. I started painting and drawing about 6 years ago now, having discovered a class entitled 'Anyone can Draw'. This course was facilitated by The University of the Third Age (U3A) and held in my local area of north London. Having done very little art since leaving school, many years ago, the class was an excellent way of easing myself back in to art and to discover whether it was for me or not. It really is amazing what you can achieve in a very short space of time and I highly recommend you try it!
Watercolour, Acrylic or Oil?
At the moment I'm using mainly watercolour, acrylic and pen & ink, but I'm really keen to use oil paints a lot more. What's always put me off is the smell and the difficulty of cleaning brushes and equipment and then disposing of the waste white spirit, etc. But now they have introduced water-based oil paint, so I can't wait to try these paints and get going. I'll let you know how I get on in the blog section of the site in the not too distant future.
